The heat wave has taken us all by surprise lately, and temperatures aren’t expected to drop anytime soon. So we need to adapt, and here’s a place that can really help us beat the heat. So, if you’re looking for a cool spot in nature, head to Haute-Savoie to explore one of the natural gems of our beautiful region: the Gorges du Fier.
The Gorges du Fier: a spectacular trail through the rocks

Located in Lovagny, 10 km fromAnnecy and near Aix-les-Bains, this iconic site has captivated visitors of all ages since 1869. Why?… Because this impressive canyon, carved by the Fier River over more than 20,000 years, offers a unique experience. The more adventurous can cross a 250-meter-long, secured footbridge suspended 25 meters above the ground , reminiscent ofthe thrills of the Pas du Géant, France’s longest footbridge, located not far from Lyon. This dizzying walk will give you as many thrills as it does moments of wonder.
Throughout the tour, which lasts about an hour, let yourself be enchanted by the landscapes sculpted by erosion, the mysterious rock faces, and the famous “Mer des Rochers” (Sea of Rocks ), a jumble of boulders with surprising shapes. As you gaze at the rocks, some will see faces formed by the magic of pareidolia! You can also simply admire the clarity of the water flowing between the cliffs— the effect is mesmerizing.

All of this in a preserved, lush setting that’s accessible to everyone! There’s no better way to recharge! The Gorges du Fier are much more than a natural site: they offer a truly refreshing immersion in legends and geological wonders. So, are you curious to see—or revisit—this in person?
