Fort Saint-Laurent is one of Lyon’s legendary buildings. Built in the 16th century, it first served as a military stronghold before becoming a convent for nuns, a military barracks, a command center during the Second World War, a pharmacy and, more recently, housing for the Notre-Dame-Sans-Abris association. Sold in 2017 to the Accor Hotel group, the association had to evict nearly 100 people to make way for a new project: a 4-star hotel with spa, which opened last month in Lyon.
Fort Saint-Laurent becomes a 4-star hotel with spa
Perched on the slopes of the Croix-Rousse, Fort Saint-Laurent has just become the Saint-Laurent Hotel. More precisely located on Place Bellevue in Lyon’s 1st arrondissement, the luxury establishment offers a panoramic view of Lyon from its 35 rooms spread over six floors, each accommodating between two and five guests. All this in a building that exudes old-world charm, with exposed beams and high ceilings, since it was built in the 16th century.
But that’s not all. In addition to its luxurious rooms, the establishment boasts a festive lounge bar, a “Rousse” terrace open to all for a drink or a bite to eat while admiring the view, and above all a spa with pool, hammam and sauna. The wellness area is also open to all, offering a fitness room with treatments and massages, in addition to the spa.
“The Hotel & Spa Fort St Laurent Lyon offers panoramic views of the city for a stay steeped in authenticity and history. Explore this inspiring 16th-century building overlooking the slopes of the Croix-Rousse. The contemporary, cosy design accentuates the spirit of a guest house and haven of well-being, magnified by the spa,” explains the Accor group.
Rates start at around €110 for a double room, and go up to €470 a night for one of the hotel’s prestigious suites.
