If there’s one thing we’re proud of as Lyonnais, it’s our gastronomy. And with good reason: it has once again been recognized by Time Out magazine, which has compiled a list of the world’s twenty best cities in which to eat. The good news is that Lyon is the only French city to feature…
Lyon among the 20 best cities to eat in
Here’s the methodology described by the media outlet:
“Our world-class selection has since been transformed into brick-and-mortar spaces: our Time Out Markets, where the best food, drink and cultural experiences are all under one roof. So for this feature, we turned to the experts – our Time Out Markets chefs – to nominate three culinary capitals that deserve the spotlight for their gastronomic scenes. The list is a celebration of culinary culture worldwide. “(Translated from the original English version).
And here are the rankings!

2. Johannesburg, South Africa
3. Lima, Peru
4. Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam
5. Beijing, China
6. Bangkok, Thailand
7. Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

9. Dubai, United Arab Emirates
10. Portland, United States
11. Liverpool, United Kingdom

Of course, the first city in the ranking is Italian: Naples, the holy temple of pizza, is hard to beat. Johannesburg, on the other hand, was praised for its kota sandwich (a street food dish made up of French fries, sausages, eggs and cheese).
If we’re surprised not to find the French capital in the top, we’re really pleased to see Lyon in 16th position, ahead of big cities like Sydney, Montreal and Osaka. Where are we eating tonight?
