“Quandles Dieux s’en mêlent”, the Sound Odyssey at the Théâtre Antique d’Orange
Entirely generated by AI, “Quand les Dieux s’en mêlent“ offers a different way of exploring the history and myths of Antiquity, combining technological innovation and scenographic creativity. Already presented last year, this show takes the Théâtre Antique d’ Orange by storm with a brand new version of its synopsis, between tradition and modernity, mythology and technology.
Visitors can enjoy an absolutely innovative experience combining cutting-edge audiovisual techniques such as 3D spatialized sound, digital projections and artificial intelligence. All equipped with Bathys headphones, renowned for their acoustic quality and active noise reduction. Audiences are thus immersed in a mythological universe revisited from the inside out.
The script: after 2000 years of sleep, Terra, the goddess of the Earth, awakens at the Théâtre Antique d’Orange. In the past, she and the other divinities observed humans from this sacred space, a veritable bridge between the real and the imaginary, the terrestrial and the celestial. But everything has changed. Gods and humans have drifted apart, and Chaos threatens to re-emerge. To avoid catastrophe, Terra must reactivate the great mechanics of the divine world. The only problem is to convince her children, the other gods (Uranus, Saturn, Vulcan, Salacia, Cybele). Faced with this daunting task, she decides to call on the audience to help her restore harmony between gods and men.
A first: visitors switch from spectator to actor by activating sounds and images. The breath of the wind, the roar of the earth, the waves of the abyss: they are the ones who trigger these narrative elements.
In the marvellous setting of this thousand-year-old theater, over 5,000 m² of video projections bring to life fantastic settings populated by gods and legendary creatures. For 45 minutes, the sound narration and animated frescoes immerse them in a dreamlike universe that transports them 2,000 years back in time. A multi-sensory journey that allows participants to (re)discover this authentic architectural gem in a whole new light.
