It’s true, we love the Parc de la Tête d’Or for its red pandas, its flowers and its family atmosphere whatever the season. However, Lyon is full of other very cute parks that would be a shame to miss out on. Here are 3 more intimate parks in Lyon where you can enjoy a picnic with the whole family this summer!
Le jardin des Chartreux
Not to be missed, the Chartreux Gardens is one of our favorite places in Lyon. Perfectly situated on the slopes of 1er, near Saint-Vincent, this pretty park is relatively untouched by the public (except on feast days) and offers an ideal setting for family outings. Away from the noise of the city center yet still close by, its view over Croix-Rousse and the festive events that take place there all year round make it one of our favourite parks! Perfect for a picnic right in the center of town, with a lovely view, but without being rushed.

Visitation Park
Little-known to the general public, Parc de la Visitation lies between Notre-Dame de Fourvière Basilica and Loyasse Cemetery. Considered the secret garden of the Parc des Hauteurs, the site is a little nugget for lovers of pretty views, but also of History. In 2015, archaeological research in the park even revealed the presence of Roman remains! The natural setting is perfect for picnics. It’s a timeless getaway we can’t say no to!
The Garden of Curiosities
Inspired by the city of Montreal, the Jardin des Curiosités in Lyon’s 5th arrondissement owes its creation to an agreement between the two cities. In 2000, to mark the 20th anniversary of their cooperation and exchange, the Canadian metropolis donated the park to the people of Lyon. The ambition is to turn it into a small natural setting in the heart of the city. And the mission was successfully accomplished, to say the least! Perfect for sunset picnics and views over the capital of Gaul, we can’t recommend it enough for your next family outing.
