If there’s one thing we love at Lyon Secret over the Christmas and New Year period, it’s mulled wine. Its spices, its smell, its comforting warmth as it burns our hands while we stroll through the streets of the City of Lights. But it’s also nice to be able to make it at home and share it with family and friends! So, here’s the fabulous recipe for old-fashioned mulled wine!
Mulled wine recipe for a (very) large pot :
Ingredients:
- 5 liters of good red wine (Languedoc, Rhône Valley or Bordeaux wines)
- 820 grams cane sugar
- 7 cinnamon sticks
- 7 star anise
- 7 cloves
- one lemon
- Two sliced oranges (with peel)
- Extra: a little fresh ginger
Alternatively, you can always divide the quantities to make smaller pots! (2.5 liters of mulled wine, 410 grams of sugar, 3 cinnamon sticks, etc.).
Preparing mulled wine (it couldn’t be simpler):
- Put everything together in the pan.
- Heat without boiling. You really don’t want it to boil!
- Leave to heat for 20 minutes.
- Serve piping hot!
This mulled wine recipe is best enjoyed without moderation! Well… Molo though. Alcohol abuse is dangerous for your health, we remind you. And if this preparation doesn’t suit you, you can always find Cyril Lignac’s recipe for mulled wine with spices!
