In Lyon, we’re used to historic buildings and evenings that stretch on and on across the Presqu’île. Families from Birmingham in flat caps, however, are a much rarer sight. And then one day, Candlelight: Peaky Blinders announced its arrival at the Basilica of Saint Bonaventure. A change of atmosphere.
After *The Lord of the Rings*, *The Wizard of Oz*, and *Outlander*, the Candlelight tribute repertoire continues to expand. This time, with a significantly darker chapter.
Chapelle de la Trinité
Peaky Blinders is the BBC series created by Steven Knight: six seasons spanning 2013 to 2022 that follow the Shelby family, led by Tommy, in 1920s Birmingham, an English industrial city in the aftermath of World War I. In 2026, the film *The Immortal Man* continued the story. In short, the Shelbys aren’t about to give up just yet.
Its soundtrack made its name by blending period settings with modern rock. It’s a mix that lends itself well to candlelight, where these tracks take on dark and powerful arrangements. Highlights include “Red Right Hand” by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds—the show’s theme song—and “Do I Wanna Know?” by the Arctic Monkeys. The kind of opening notes that are enough to silence an entire room.
What should you know about this concert?
About an hour-long concert, thousands of candles, and a family that isn’t in the habit of asking for permission. No dress code, but a newsboy cap and a three-piece suit wouldn’t go amiss (just saying).
Dates and ticketing information have not yet been announced, but you can already sign up for the waitlist to be among the first to be notified and take advantage of presale tickets before they go on sale to the general public. In the Shelby family, we like to stay one step ahead.
