On November 29, 1985, the Lyon Opera premiered its own production of *Cinderella*. Maguy Marin choreographed it for the Lyon Opera Ballet and transported the fairy tale to a land of toys. The dancers wear masks, and their movements often resemble those of puppets.
In this toy-like world, the stepmother and stepsisters were portrayed as dolls, and the sets and costumes evoked a toy chest. In this version, the choreographer retains only certain passages from Prokofiev’s score and adds sound sequences by Jean Schwarz.
The show enjoyed a long run: Maguy Marin’s company reports having performed it nearly 400 times. Lyon saw it again in December 2003.

Forty-one years after its premiere, the famous fairy tale returns to the Lyon metropolitan area, at the Espace Albert Camus in Bron, but in a completely different version. Ballet of Lights: Cinderella in a sparkling production—an immersive ballet in which dancers perform to the works of classical composers, wearing luminous costumes.
