Summer has barely begun, but it’s already starting to feel like part of the scenery. With the hot weather, Lyon is feeling like August 15… And to mark the occasion this weekend, we’re heading for the Entre Rhône et Saône festival, which celebrates water in all its forms. Discover, celebrate, protect: that’s the triptych for this year’s event. On the program: activities, workshops, concerts and a whole host of festivities spread between Guillotière, Confluence and Île Barbe.
This year, the festival is pulling out all the stops, with over 300 historical, cultural, sporting, scientific and ecological events… All supported by associations, artists, cultural institutions, corporate sponsors… and, of course, the people of Lyon themselves. Of course, we couldn’t go into all the details, so we’re sharing our top three picks (among many others):
The giant Ondine banquet at la Guill’
And no, it’s not just at the Lyon Steet Food Festival that you’ll be eating well this weekend. On Friday June 27, everyone’s invited to join in the fun at a picnic that’s a veritable Gallic feast. The idea? Share your victuals with the table on your right, while getting to know your neighbors on the left. Baskets of fruit and vegetables will be laid out for the occasion. Don’t forget to bring your dishes (reusable if possible). And if you’re still a little hungry, foodtrucks will also be on hand. Tables will be set up on the banks of the Guillotière, offering a breathtaking view of the Rhône. A convivial XXL event to kick off the weekend with a bang!
The comeback of Mâchecroute
It’s back! The legendary Mâchecroute, with its thousand and one secrets, will make its appearance on the banks of La Guillotière on Friday from 6pm. This year, the creature reaches a height of 12 meters and required over 1,300 hours of work. We’re already looking forward to this mythical showdown!
A “guinguette” to celebrate in style
Aaah, the famous guinguette! Is there a more French word in the dictionary? Once again this year, the Guinguette de la Guillotière awaits you with live music every day of the festival. Rock, electro, hip-hop, funk, Afro-Brazilian groove… there’s something for every ear. And the icing on the cake: a special funk dance on Sunday. In other words, enjoy Friday and Saturday… but save a little energy for Sunday.
…And tutti quanti
We couldn’t tell you everything… but we hope we’ve at least made your mouths water! Whether you’re young or old, you’re bound to find something to suit you among the 300 events: sporting, cultural, historical, educational or artistic. Don’t forget to register on the festival website: around 70% of activities are booked in advance.
