The Lyon-Paris TGV line, one of the busiest in France, will be temporarily closed for works for 4 days in November. This news is likely to change the habits of many passengers!
Why the closure?
From November 8 to 12, 2024, the Lyon-Paris TGV line will be completely interrupted due to renovation work on the rail infrastructure. The line is equipped with ERTMS, or European Rail Traffic Management System, which is“the railway signalling system common to all European countries. This technology allows more trains to run in complete safety, without having to change systems at the border. An operation of this scale is a world first on a high-speed line in operation“, explains SNCF.
These operations will thus“increase train frequency, improve regularity and promote access to the French network for European rail companies.” From Friday November 8 at 11pm until Wednesday November 13 at 4am, no TGVs will be running on the Paris-Lyon line.
The TGV Lyon Paris: a key line in the French rail network
Linking the capital of Gaul to the capital of France in less than 2 hours, the Lyon-Paris TGV line is a key link in the French rail network. Every day, thousands of passengers take one of the 240 daily trains on this line, making it the busiest in France (and even Europe!).
The line is due to reopen on November 13. After four days of disruption, journeys should resume as normal, with the promise of a modernized network for line users. Lyon commuters will have to be patient and plan ahead for this short interruption. If you are planning to travel during these dates, which unfortunately fall on a public holiday (Monday November 11, 2024), we advise you to make other plans…
