Immerse yourself in an adventure worthy of a film in Lyon: the Musée Cinéma & Miniature, a true hidden treasure in Vieux-Lyon, dating back to the 15th century. Here, the authenticity of Lyon meets the magic of the 7th art: in its 2,000 m² of rooms, discover over 1,000 original objects from emblematic film shoots. Costumes, props, animatronics and gadgets from Star Wars, Harry Potter, Narnia, Indiana Jones, Alien, Terminator 2 and more.
NEW: a room dedicated to the American animation studio LAIKA
This exceptional exhibition pays tribute to the unique expertise of the LAIKA animation studio, famous for its stop-motion masterpieces such as Coraline and Kubo. Through more than 700 objects, models, original puppets, meticulously crafted sets, costumes and accessories, visitors discover the manufacturing secrets behind the universes of 5 Oscar-winning films.
Each is celebrated by an iconic image surrounded by a constellation of artifacts: sketches, storyboards, visual inspirations and immersive digital content. And for total immersion, human-scale stage reproductions – such as Coraline ‘s Other Garden – let you immerse yourself in the magic of the studio and discover the boundless creativity of the artists behind it.
The Musée Cinéma & Miniature, Lyon’s entertainment Mecca
On the top floor, you’ll find nothing less than the world’s largest collection of art miniatures. Dan Ohlmann‘s hyper-realistic scenes , faithfully reproduced in 1/12 scale, stand alongside works by some thirty international artists. There are also mind-bogglingly realistic settings, such as a Maxim’s restaurant or a Lyonnais bouchon.
Total immersion that leaves room for the imagination
But the highlight of the show, the Mona Lisa of this 2.0 museum? These are the rooms dedicated to cinema’s special effects: masks, armor, prostheses, matte paintings, puppets… You can see Robocop’s armor, an alien from Close Encounters of the 3rd Kind, creatures from Jumanji, Top Gun, Batman, Gremlins and many other icons of the 7th art.
And – this is brand new – simply push open the doors of the immersive “FANTASY” room, open only since July 5, to enter a new world in the style of the magic wardrobe from The World of Narnia. You’ll discover an extraordinary universe of cult costumes, props and sets from Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Dark Crystal, Narnia and other fantasy films.
This cinephile temple doesn’t just exhibit: it hosts. Masterclasses, temporary exhibitions (Beetlejuice, Ghostbusters, Drew Struzan…) and one-off events (like the Joker’s Dodge Monaco or masterclasses for Star Wars legends) make it an inspiring place to meet and share. In short, we can’t wait to discover this new cultural hub.
