Ranked as one of the 12 best immersive experiences in the world by CNN, the immersive Van Gogh exhibition has been fascinating visitors with its exceptional character since 2019. “Van Gogh: The Immersive Experience” in Lyon
In this 360-degree experience made possible by cutting-edge technology, digital projections will envelop the walls and floor of Studio 24, broadcasting Vincent Van Gogh’s iconic masterpieces. The Starry Night, The Room at Arles, The Sunflowers… The vibrant colors of the doomed painter’s canvases will invade the space, while his story will be told to you, completing the immersion.
You’ll discover the secrets of the artist’s creative process: did you know, for example, that he used such vibrant colors because of his color-blindness? Or that the emblematic painting Starry Night (1888) was painted while Van Gogh was in a psychiatric asylum in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, where he had voluntarily retired?
3D immersion
Among the artist’s major works, it would be impossible to miss La Chambre à Arles, which he painted in different versions. Thanks to the exceptional work of the curators, this exhibition offers visitors the chance to discover a life-sizeChambre à Arles, meticulously reconstructed!
The bed, the chair, the paintings hanging on the wall, the bedside table, a half-open window… Every detail will be present: spotlights recreate to perfection the light of the picture painted by Van Gogh in 1888, bringing this work to life before the astonished eyes of the public!
A unique moment of contemplation
In the center of the exhibition, a large room will project Vincent Van Gogh’s works onto the walls in giant format, offering a true moment of contemplation. Accompanied by the music of Vivaldi’s “Winter” and other pieces in perfect harmony with the colors of the paintings, this will be an opportunity to discover the painter’s work in a new light.
In a meditative atmosphere, the most famous works will pass by. Between animated self-portraits and Japanese prints, the world of this precursor of Impressionism will be brought to light in an unprecedented way. Deckchairs will be at your disposal for a moment of intense relaxation, allowing you to enjoy a timeless experience, conducive to daydreaming and creativity!
Awaken your inner artist!
“I dream my painting, then I paint my dream.” This famous Van Gogh quote will invite you to awaken your inner artist. In one of the rooms, after admiring a hundred of the painter’s works, you can let your imagination run wild as you sketch imaginary landscapes on paper.
Looking for inspiration? You’ll find coloring pages of Van Gogh’s most famous works on tables, along with colored pencils. A great opportunity to make the master’s creations your own! Once your masterpiece is complete, you can even project it onto a digital wall and admire it on the big screen. A fun, participatory activity that will delight budding artists!
Virtual reality: the highlight of the show
The last room offers a preview of the virtual reality experience. You’ll have to pay €4 to enjoy it, but you won’t regret it. This final stage of the visit is the pinnacle of the immersive experience. Once you’ve donned your virtual reality goggles, guided by a voice-over, you’ll be plunged straight into Van Gogh‘s 19th-century Arles. And what a journey it is!
Take a stroll through the painter’s famous bedroom and wander through the lanes and forests of southern France, in search of inspiration. Each scene from Van Gogh’s paintings will come to life before your eyes: La Sieste, Bois et sous-bois, La Nuit étoilée, Le Semeur au soleil couchant, Le Café de nuit… During this 360° stroll, you’ll plunge into magical places through the eyes of the artist.
