This marks a major milestone in the history of the Lumière Festival! For its 2026 edition (October 10–18), the festival is reaching a new milestone and moving to the heart of the Presqu’île. It’s official: for the first time, the Village Cinéma will be based at the Cité de la Métropole de Lyon, within the magnificent Grand Hôtel-Dieu—a treat for movie lovers.
Thanks to the support of the Lyon Metropolis, this iconic heritage site is providing 2,000 m² entirely dedicated to the general public and industry professionals— more than enough to accommodate the more than 160,000 festivalgoers expected.

What can we expect to find in this new 2,000 m² Village Cinéma?
Designed as a vibrant hub of life and artistic gathering, the Village will bring together everything that defines the soul of the festival:
- A lively hub: a café, a restaurant, a bar, a large bookstore, and the must-visit DVD market.
- Cultural Program: Discussions, events, and exhibitions dedicated to the art of cinema.
- Industry events: This is where accredited attendees of the Classic Film Market will mingle with the press from around the world.
Located right next to the downtown hotels and movie theaters, the Village will offer free admission and be open to everyone.
While you wait for the doors to open, rediscover your favorite soundtracks—not at the movies, but at spectacular tribute concerts.

Nostalgic film lovers need not worry! Just an 8-minute metro ride away, the Institut Lumière and Rue du Premier-Film (Lyon’s 8th arrondissement) remain the other beating heart of Lumière 2026.
There you’ll find screenings at the Hangar and the Villa Lumière, the gallery, the bookstore, the café-restaurant, as well as a brand-new way to experience the Rue du Premier-Film, specially designed for this edition. Lyon proves once again that it truly deserves its nickname.
