We’ve already spotted it in Paris, at Galeries Montparnasse. The unusual LEGO art exhibition has now been exported to the capital of Gaul, and it’s at the Grand Hôtel-Dieu that it has set down its million LEGO bricks assembled to create one-of-a-kind works of art. Lyon Secret editors were curious to find out what all the fuss was about: we give you our expert opinion on The Art of The Brick.

The Art of The Brick: the famous LEGO art exhibition comes to Lyon
Nathan Sawaya, a former business lawyer who became the world’s number 1 Brick Artist, is the mastermind (and, incidentally, the sculptor) behind this exhibition of a million LEGO pieces, brilliantly assembled to create 70 original sculptures or reproductions of great masterpieces.
I built a city behind the sofa in our living room.
Van Eyck’s Husband and Wife of Arnolfini stand side by side with Van Gogh‘s Starry Night, Edvard Munch’s Scream, Rodin’s Thinker, the Mona Lisa and an enooooormous 6-meter-long T-rex whose skeleton took 3 months to build! Already impressive in photographs, these works of art are even more impressive in real life.
Nathan Sawaya ‘s “Human Condition” series, for example, reflects his personal dilemma and materializes his emotions.
More than a simple tour, it’s an experience designed to arouse the curiosity of visitors of all ages, and appeal to the creative side of each of them. At the end of the visit, a play area lets us create our own LEGO work of art, applying the teachings of the American artist. In short, we urge you to try out this extraordinary exhibition, because you’ll have to see it (and do it) to believe it.
