Literally and figuratively , it’s the mainstay of Christmas. Every year, the fir tree is responsible for catalyzing family time during the festive season and infusing the magic of Christmas. It’s all about the presents, of course, but the tree is much more than that… So it’s important to pamper it and choose it with tact! We give you all the keys you need to bring Christmas into your home…

Rent your tree from the Société Protectrice des Végétaux (SPV)
At SPV, you can rent your tree and do a good deed! You won’t be able to have it in your home until December 14, and you’ll have to return it on December 28. The reason for this? This tree is not destined to disappear after the holidays. On the contrary, if the SPV recovers it, it’s to make it grow, and maybe you’ll even be able to readopt it the following year! A great Lyon initiative to follow!
You’ll find them at the Marché de Noël des Girondins, Saturday December 3 from 10am to 6pm. It’s at the Jardin des Girondins, 14 rue Crépet (metro B, Jean Jaurès stop).
14 Rue Crepet, Lyon 7 / 7 Avenue Edmond Locard, Oullins
Ikea, the voucher tree
Well, it may not be the most responsible alternative, but it’s certainly one of the most economical. At Ikea, you can pre-order your tree online and then pick it up at your nearest address. This year, you’re obliged to reserve your tree online, and you can order up to a maximum of 4 per household. They’re all about 1m40 tall, and you’ll get a full refund with a €24.99 voucher! Basically, if you’re planning to shop with the Swedish giant in the near future, this could be the best alternative!
9 Rue Simone Veil, Vénissieux
Make your own tree!
It’s still the most economical and ecological solution! If you’re looking for an original tree that can be reused every year, the best tip is to create it yourself. Whether it’s made from reclaimed tree branches, stacked books or decorated green garland hung on the wall, you’ll find plenty of tips on how to make your own tree on the Internet!
What to do with your tree after the holidays?
If you’ve bought a natural Christmas tree, you should be aware that several collection points will be open throughout the city during the first fortnight of January. Trees with a wooden base, those with a “Handicap International” bag, marked “OK COMPOST” or light brown cornstarch bags are accepted. All other trees (plastic, flocked natural, etc.) will not be accepted.
