For some, it’s a pet peeve, while for others it’s been awaited like the messiah… Yes, the limited traffic zone is not without its critics, and has already caused quite a stir since its inception. In any case, things are moving forward, as it is now possible to apply for access. Indeed, from June 2025 onwards, whether you’re a local resident, shopkeeper or delivery driver, you’ll need a pass to move freely around the Presqu’île. How do I get one? Here’s what you need to know.
What’s a limited-traffic zone?

From June 21, 2025, Lyon’s Presqu’île will become a limited traffic zone (ZTL) as part of the “Presqu’île à Vivre” project . Only certain vehicles (local residents, delivery personnel, craftsmen, public transport, etc.) will be allowed access, via five entry points equipped with automatic bollards. Access will be free from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. for deliveries, and then restricted to authorized users.
The perimeter concerned extends from the lower slopes of the Croix-Rousse to the north of Place Bellecour, while maintaining access to the Rhône and Saône quays. At the same time, some 15 streets will be pedestrianized, and access to public parking lots will be maintained. Bus routes will be reorganized to adapt to this new configuration. The aim is to improve the quality of life in the city center. All the while maintaining services and mobility for all Lyon residents.
How will traffic flow work?
Since April 22, residents, professionals and beneficiaries have been able to apply for their precious pass via the lpa.fr website, as well as at the LPA Cordeliers boutique (2 place des Cordeliers, Lyon 2). From May 15, applications will also be accepted at the Mairie d’arrondissement (1st and 2nd arrondissements). Identification will be done directly by reading your license plate or with your badge. For occasional visitors, access is free from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. (with proof of identity in the event of an inspection). For access outside these hours, prior registration is required at least 48 hours before your visit.
☎️ Need specific information? Take a look at the LPA website. Otherwise, a telephone service is available by calling 04 72 41 67 30 (10am to 8pm Monday to Friday, 9am to 4pm Saturday).
