Here’s how to end the week on a high note. While the SNCF is cutting its Marseille – Lyon – Paris line for works, the TCL has come to put a smile on the faces of public transport users in the Lyon region. The announcement was made by the President of the Greater Lyon Metropolis.
“Free public transport for all children up to the age of 10 from 1ᵉʳ Sept 2025!”
Bruno Bernard has just made the announcement on X: “This measure aims to make everyday life easier for families by reducing their transport expenses, while making travel simpler and more accessible for family outings, activities and leisure activities, particularly at weekends.” The other good news is that the measure should also include two other public transport networks. The first is Cars du Rhône, which provides transport for over 23,000 schoolchildren in the Rhône département. The second is the Libellule network, which covers the CAVBS (Communauté d’Agglomération de Villefranche Beaujolais Saône) with 17 bus routes.
The Chairman also added, “Thanks to this targeted free service, parents and children will be able to take full advantage of the transport offer to travel without constraint throughout the Metropole and beyond, whether to go to school, visit their loved ones, or discover new places together.”
A final validation at the end of November
Before being officially implemented, the measure must pass through the Sytral Council. The latter is due to meet on November 21 to ratify or reject the decision. As the network is already free for children under the age of 4, this measure will undoubtedly be a good way of ending this year of 2024 by looking forward to the next with enthusiasm. To be continued!
