Located 20 minutes from Lyon, this film studio—known for the series *Kaamelott*—recreates one of the most visited Norman gardens in the world

From a former flour mill to a mecca of French cinema

The site originally had nothing to do with the audiovisual industry. The Grands Moulins Électriques de Villeurbanne operated there as early as 1901, along the route of today’s T3 tram line, before closing permanently in the 1980s. The site then lay abandoned for more than twenty years.
An unexpected turnaround— Studio 24 opened its doors in 2002 on this industrial wasteland, followed in 2009 by the inauguration of the Pôle PIXEL, which today brings together more than a hundred companies in the film, audiovisual, and digital arts sectors.
Two productions have left a particularly lasting mark on the site: the cult series *Kaamelott*, filmed here starting with Season 3, and the animated film *My Life as a Zucchini*, which won a César Award and the Audience Award at the Annecy Festival in 2016.

Monet: The Immersive Experience, a projection currently on view in this very studio

For the past few weeks, Studio 24 has been transformed into a Norman garden. “Monet: The Immersive Experience” covers the walls and floor with 360° projections to recreate the water garden at Giverny, the Japanese bridge covered in wisteria, and the water lilies, in an installation that gives the impression of walking through the artwork rather than simply viewing it. The tour, which lasts between 60 and 90 minutes, concludes with a painting workshop, where visitors try their hand at the technique of juxtaposed brushstrokes characteristic of Impressionism, before leaving with their own creation.

It’s the perfect way to cool off and escape the heat in the midst of a summer heat wave.
