Looking for ways to get out and about in the sweltering heat? Lyon Secret shares its tips with you! From cinema to escape games, climbing, museums and even a trip to a local lake, here’s our selection of the 7 best things to do during the heatwave in Lyon.
1. Visit one of Lyon’s best museums
Every year, it’s the same thing. We’re thinking that we don’t have enough museums and exhibitions in our schedule, despite Lyon’s thriving offer. So this summer, to survive the heatwave, we’re mixing business with pleasure and heading for the one of Lyon’s best museums!
2. Treat yourself to a cinema ticket
As we all know, cinema isn’t cheap. But when the weather’s this hot, it’s still the ideal way to spend some quality time outdoors (rather than lying next to your fan), and the City of Lyon has understood this. To combat the heat and provide access to the cinema for all, we are distributing 5,000 free tickets to people on minimum social benefits at Pathé, UGC, Comœdia, Lumière and Ciné Duchère cinemas. The hottest films of the moment? Despicable Me 4, Garfield, and The Count of Monte Cristo with Pierre Niney!
3. An immersive experience with friends
Want to try out an original activity? How about an immersive experience with friends? In Lyon, there’s no shortage of opportunities. Solve riddles with Enigma, play artist in the dark with Paint in the Dark or develop your palate during a blind dinner with Dining in the Dark, it’s up to you…
4. Indoor physical activity
If you don’t want to melt away under the sun, why not take up indoor sports? Climbing, tennis, volleyball and fitness – there’s a whole host of sporting activities to be enjoyed indoors, in air-conditioned spaces. The best way to beat the sweltering heat and get back into shape for the new school year!
5. Cooling off by the lake
While our beloved capital of the Gauls is, and always will be, in our eyes the most beautiful city in France, we have to admit that we miss the sea in summer. Fortunately, the area around Lyon is full of small lakes that are very refreshing for the August temperatures. We’ve even compiled a list for you here !
6. Going to the pool
Warm weather means swimming! In Lyon, a number of swimming pools open their doors for you to cool off this summer. These include gerland swimming pool which has just opened after years of renovation work.
7. Eating ice cream
What better excuse than the heatwave to treat yourself to a delicious ice cream from one of Lyon’s favorite ice cream parlors? If you like to discover original flavors, don’t hesitate to visit Terre Adelice, in Vieux-Lyon. Elderflower, red bean or hibiscus, this ice cream parlour offers over 150 sweet and savoury flavours. There’s something for everyone!
