It’s super hot and Lyon’s few swimming pools are always packed… We’re fed up with it too, so we’ve put together a list of quiet places to swim around Lyon.
1. Lac de Miribel-Jonage: the most popular lake
It needs no introduction: it’s surely the best known in Lyon, and also the most accessible, since it’s served by the city’s public transport network. However, in the middle of summer it may be just as difficult to find a place there as at the Rhône pool. But there are plenty of hidden coves, so don’t hesitate to take a tour! Website : Lake Miribel-Jonage.
2. Lake Aiguebelette: a breathtaking landscape
Just 1h30 from Lyon, this lake is ideally located: between mountains and forest, it offers such a pleasant setting that it’s hard to leave. It’s also a place where you can indulge in a variety of water sports! However, as it’s also one of the region’s most popular venues, it’s likely to be a little crowded, but less so than Miribel, that’s for sure. Website : Lake Aiguebelette.
3. Lake Annecy: between town and nature
It had to be on our list: the famous Lake Annecy, renowned for its beauty that it has not stolen. All around are beaches and more or less peaceful bathing spots. But it’s so big that if you look hard enough, away from the touristy areas, you’re sure to find THE perfect spot for lounging with family and friends! Website : Lake Annecy.
4. Lake Nantua: the jewel of the Jura
This time, it’s the Ain region! This lake has a fascinating history, which we invite you to discover at its website. Its color changes according to the weather: sapphire blue, dark green or very light blue, it’s a sight to behold at least once in your life. With its pontoons and various swimming spots, it’s surely one of the most beautiful jewels on this list.
5. Lake Paladru: Fine sand and crystal-clear water
This splendid lake, about an hour from Lyon, is well known in the Voiron region. The water is crystal-clear and you can enjoy a wide range of activities: fishing, sailing, pedal-boating, swimming… There’s something for everyone. It’s also a meeting place for the people of Grenoble and Lyon, a neutral zone where conflict is not welcome (yes, we’ll stop with this futile quarrel later, I promise). The website : Lake Paladru.
6. Lac du Bourget in Savoie: a panoramic view
Lac du Bourget is France’s largest natural lake. With much of it still completely wild, it’s home to numerous animal and plant species. From Aix-les-Bains to Chambéry, this lake offers a variety of views, from a city canal to the freedom of a wilderness. A unique space in which to bathe!
7. Lake Vouglans: 35km of turquoise water
France’s 3rd largest man-made lake welcomes you to the Jura! What more could you ask for? Swimming in crystal-clear waters, water sports and sunbathing by the lapping waves? And when it comes to spots, there’s something for everyone! Whether you prefer fine sand or well-trimmed lawns, there’s something for everyone. Website : Vouglans lake
