At Lyon Secret, we love to try out restaurants in our beloved city, well known for its gastronomy! On the one hand, to treat ourselves, but also to tell you about our experience. We’re often delighted to discover new flavors and atmospheres that make us feel right at home!
We’ve already had the pleasure of listing the best bouchons in Lyon, or the best ice-cream parlors (yes, we’re crazy about them at this time of year!), and this time we’d like to tell you about a little nugget we found in Lyon’s 9th arrondissement.
A Michelin-listed restaurant at an affordable price
First of all, it should be pointed out that Le Tiroir is listed in the Michelin Bib Gourmand selection , which sets the tone… and above all, that we’re going to eat well! For those who have never heard of this category, the Bib Gourmand is a distinction of the MICHELIN Guide, created in 1997, which rewards restaurants offering quality cuisine at excellent value for money (everything we love!). Accessible, generous and varied, this selection highlights addresses where you can treat yourself without breaking the bank.
What we particularly liked about Le Tiroir is that we were surprised! And with good reason: every week, the lunch menu is renewed, and every month, the dinner menu gets a makeover. The restaurant’s cuisine is on the move, designed to arouse our curiosity and make us want to come back again and again. Spoiler alert: mission accomplished!
Culinary surprises and top-quality service
And now to the table! As we like to break up the day with a good meal, we decided to try the menu at lunchtime. The restaurant has a small, pleasant shaded terrace, and two indoor floors decorated in a modern, elegant style. Given the heat of June, we opted for an indoor lunch, upstairs (of course, the air-conditioning was included!). The menu offers several formulas: a starter-main course or main course-dessert menu at €22, a starter-main course-dessert menu at €27, and a starter-main course-cheese-dessert menu at €32. There are also a few off-menu options, as well as a well-stocked drinks menu, with a nice selection of wines and cocktails.
We started with a non-alcoholic ginger cocktail, refreshing as can be! We then had to choose between two starters: a perfect egg with chanterelle salad and a touch of bacon, or a cheese ravioli with pistachio pesto and parsley emulsion. Three courses were offered: a vegetarian dish based on eggplant confit, a roast pig mignon, or a grilled octopus dish. Finally, there was a choice of two desserts to round off the meal: a vanilla-raspberry cremeux or a smoked chocolate and asparagus cremeux.
Sounds good, doesn’t it? Well, it was! After ordering our menus from smiling, attentive waiters, we first tried the raviole. We were seduced by the combination of pistachio flavor and creamy cheese center: simply excellent! And when we saw the eggplant confit arrive, accompanied by a crispy polenta topped with a strawberry chutney, we really knew we ‘d be coming back to this restaurant. It has to be said that it wouldn’t have occurred to us to combine eggplant and strawberry… but that’s undoubtedly genius, because it was delicious! As for the desserts, they were fresh and delicious, with a touch of originality to match the rest of the meal. Beyond the quality of the dishes and the finesse of the flavors, we were really surprised, and that’s good! And what’s even better? Because the dishes change, we know we’ll be surprised again next time!
As you can imagine, it’s not every day you get to treat yourself and discover new flavors at this price. So there’s only one thing to say: open the door to Le Tiroir!
