Spring is here, and when the weather is nice, human nature is such that it pushes us to head out into the countryside to get away from it all. And from that perspective, we can say that our region has a knack for being just right. Lyon is surrounded by natural treasures just waiting to be discovered. We absolutely love this one. In fact, it combines convenience, a stunning view (one of the most beautiful in our region), and remains accessible to the whole family.
La Terrasse de Chiroubles, the best rooftop in the entire region

Even though Lyon has no shortage of terraces for enjoying a drink with friends, we have to admit that this one is in a league of its own. Easily accessible, perfect for a gourmet break with a view that’s worth all the technology in the world, the Terrasse de Chiroubles is the kind of place (like Brasserie Georges or the mâchon) that every Lyonnais or Lyonnaise should visit at least once in their lifetime.
Up there, you’ll be at an altitude of 740 meters—the equivalent of two Eiffel Towers— to admire a landscape worthy of the most beautiful postcards. The Beaujolais (Beaujolais Geosite, UNESCO Global Geopark) at your feet, the Ain plain and the winding Saône Valley, and, if the weather is clear, an unobstructed view all the way to the peaks of the Alps, including Mont Blanc— even though it’s over 150 km away as the crow flies!

The icing on the cake is that every summer, the “Beaujolez-vous” evenings let you enjoy concerts from up there, surrounded by a giant barbecue and wine tastings (to be enjoyed in moderation), for an unforgettable evening. When we tell you this is the place to be!
A hike for all skill levels

La Terrasse de Chiroubles is accessible by car, so no need to panic if you’re a homebody—you’ll be able to enjoy it too. On the other hand, if you’re itching to get out and about, opt for one of the many hikes, such as the 10 Crus Panoramic Trail. In just one hour, you’ll be able to take in the full view while learning more about the surrounding vineyards thanks to various informational signs.
If you’re into old stone and consider the Gros Caillou the ultimate symbol of Lyon, don’t miss the “Tomb of Gargantua” near the telegraph station—a quartz rock formed about 300 million years ago!
