With the 42nd edition of the European Heritage Days, it was too good an opportunity to pull this map out of our personal archives*. But rest assured, heritage is like a good glass of Beaujolais or a praline tart – it can be enjoyed all year round. So there’s still plenty to do this autumn, including a whole host of not-to-be-missed exhibitions.
A totally revamped TCL network map

We produced this map with the kind permission of SYTRAL, whom we’d like to salute in passing. Here’s a way to combine business with pleasure, by rediscovering how Lyon’s heritage is nicely scattered throughout the city. From museums to theaters, cinemas, libraries, stadiums and art galleries, (re)discover Lyon’s emblematic sites at a glance.
The project? To make it easy for everyone to locate cultural points of interest and get from one place to another without wasting time.
We’ve known it all along, but especially since 1998 (when the historic site of Lyon became a UNESCO World Heritage Site): the capital of the Gauls is a veritable treasure trove of heritage.
How did we create this map?
Using online location tools and our love of local heritage, we renamed each metro, streetcar or bus station with the name of a nearby cultural site. So, “ Bellecour” becomes “Théâtre des Célestins”, “Perrache” becomes “Le Périscope”, “Cuire” becomes “Le Radiant”, and so on.
The choice wasn’t always easy: we would have loved to integrate “Le Nombril du Monde” or “l’Espace 44” in Croix-Paquet, for example. And when we couldn’t find any cultural venues nearby, the station remained empty. As with double-named stations (such as “Boutasse – Camille Rousset”), we sometimes assigned two locations when we felt they were inseparable. For example, “Hôtel de Ville” becomes “Opéra – Musée des Beaux-Arts”. After all, when you love… you don’t count!
Please note:
- For greater legibility, the “Part-Dieu Jules Favre” (C1, C2, C3), “Part-Dieu Vivier Merle” (MB, T1) and “Part-Dieu Villette” (T3) stations have been combined into a single box, renamed “Bibliothèque Municipale de Lyon”.
- To improve readability, some place names have been reduced to their initials, for example: “CCVA Villeurbanne” for “Centre Culturel et de la Vie Associative” or “BU” for “Bibliothèque Universitaire”.
- The above map is not intended for administrative or public use. In no way does it replace the official TCL network map, which you can consult here.
